
PRIMARY PREVENTION
Through Greater Piedmont Community Resilience (GPCR), Center for Prevention Services delivers evidence-based programs that empower youth and families to build healthy relationships, prevent substance use, and strengthen community support. These initiatives are designed for youth, parents, educators, and community leaders, offering practical tools and guidance to foster a healthier, safer, and more connected community.

UniqueYOU
Developed at Prevention Services and tailored for 3rd and 4th graders, UniqueYOU focuses on self-esteem, communication, emotions, teamwork, and assertiveness. It includes eight sessions, each lasting 30 minutes to an hour.
Botvin Life Skills Training
Botvin LifeSkills Training (LST) is an evidence-based program that helps prevent substance abuse among school-aged youth and teens by strengthening social and emotional skills that reduce risky behaviors like drug use, drinking, and violence.


Too Good for Drugs
Available for Kindergarten through 8th grade, this engaging 10-session program covers healthy relationships, making healthy choices, and resisting peer pressure. Each session lasts between 30 minutes to an hour.
Reconnecting Youth
Reconnecting Youth (RY) is an evidence-based program for teens at risk of dropping out or facing emotional and behavioral challenges. Delivered as a semester-long class for 10–12 students, RY fosters personal growth in a supportive setting.


HALO (Healthy Alternative for Little Ones)
Targeted at preschool and kindergarten-aged children, HALO focuses on healthy choices, emotions, and relationships through 12 sessions, each lasting 30 minutes to an hour.
AVOID (Anti-Vaping Online Information Dissemination)
An program designed for youth ages 12-16, AVOID educates about the dangers of vaping through youth-led videos and interactive activities, aiming to dispel myths and provide factual information.


Strengthening Families Program (SFP)
The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is an evidence-based training that helps build stronger relationships, reduce risk factors for substance abuse and depression, and increase protective factors. Weekly sessions include separate parent and youth classes followed by joint family practice, focusing on bonding, setting clear boundaries, and monitoring well-being.
SAAF (Strong African American Families)
This 7-session program supports African American youth aged 10–14 and their caregivers. SAAF builds on the strengths of families and helps manage the transition to adolescence while emphasizing the prevention of risky behaviors such as substance use.


Familia Adelante
Familia Adelante is a culturally sensitive program for Latino youth aged 10 to 14 and their families. It strengthens life skills, reduces substance use, and addresses risky behaviors through 8 to 12 weekly sessions. Participants learn to promote communication, develop resilience, and establish healthier family dynamics.
